Dracut Rotary Announces Gingerbread Competition Winners

Dracut Rotary Club has announced the winners of its 2012 Gingerbread House Competition, held December 1st at Harmony Hall. The Club hosted hundreds of visitors, all of whom had an opportunity to participate in the judging. Santa was on hand to meet with children and adults alike. The day-long event culminated in the town’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting. The gingerbread creations entered in the contest were outstanding, and DRC extends its thanks to all who participated. Club Night Out

ACTORS inc will be presenting The Magic of Cole Porter at Harmony Hall this November. Several of the members are planning on attending. Tentatively, we are looking at Saturday November 10th, 7:00 p.m. The cost is $45 per person. This is Dinner Theater. The meal will be catered by Lenzi’s and will be chicken pot pie and fixings. Container of “Crutches 4 Africa” Soon Headed to Uganda

Dracut Rotarians, along with Dave and Candice Talbot, were on hand on Saturday to pack mobility devices from Pennsylvania and New York, along with those collected in Dracut from clubs throughout District 7910, into a 40’ container that will soon be loaded onto a ship headed for Uganda. Members of the Tororo Rotary Club will be on hand in Uganda to receive the crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs so that they can be distributed to people who desperately need them as soon as possible. District Governor Visits DRC…Inducts Newest Member

Gail Goossens, Dracut Rotary Club’s newest member was inducted in style at the Club’s Tuesday meeting. District Governor Richard Dietz was on hand to conduct the ceremony personally. Following a presentation outlining his goals for District 7910 over the coming months, Dietz called on Goossens to commit herself to the mission of Rotary International. Members at the meeting then welcomed Goossens into the Dracut Club.

Goossens is the Store Manager of TD North Bank on Bridge Street in Dracut. Her commitment to the community and her wish to serve the people of Dracut and beyond brought her to DRC.  “I wanted to become more involved in the community and co-workers suggested I meet members of the Dracut Rotary Club,” said Goossens.

According to DRC President, Kathy Boyd, the Club is very pleased to welcome Gail as our newest member.

Rotary International Sends Alert on Polio Effort

Rotary International has issued the following

Emergency Alert:

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative, of which Rotary is a spearheading partner, has launched an emergency action plan because of the threat of continued transmission of polio due to funding and immunization gaps. Cases have dropped dramatically, but the plan is needed to avoid a resurgence of the disease.

Rotarians and “Friends” March in Memorial Day Parade

DRACUT – Dracut Rotary joined civic, veteran and youth groups in honoring our fallen heroes and all who served our country in past generations at the annual Dracut Memorial Day Parade. Marching with Club members were members’ children and grandchildren who helped distribute more than 5000 strings of red, blue, silver and gold beads to spectators along the parade route. Club Welcomes RYLA Students

DRACUT – Dracut Rotary Club gave a warm welcome this week to the 2012 RYLA attendees and alternates. The students, along with Guidance Counselor Geoff Kromer, were the guests of the Club at its weekly luncheon meeting. RYLA Committee Chair LouAnn Jendro introduced the 4 attendees and 2 alternates, all sophomores at Dracut High School . The students offered a few remarks regarding their school activities and interests, and what they hoped to learn at this year’s RYLA weekend. They viewed their selection as an opportunity to hone their communication and team building skills. The students agreed that they were hoping to come away with leadership ideas that they could share with their fellow student leaders at DHS. Continue reading

DRC Attends NBHS Induction Ceremony

DRACUT – Members of the Dracut Rotary Club were among the the invited guests, at Dracut Senior High School today, at the National Business Honor Society Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2013. The Club, which sponsors NBHS at DHS, joined administrators, faculty, family and friends in congratulating the eleven students being honored for their scholarship and business acumen. DRC Kicks Off Clambake Raffle

DRACUT – The Rotary Club of Dracut has announced the kickoff of its Clambake For 10 fundraiser for 2012. For more than a decade, the club has been holding the drive, raising  thousands of dollars to support Dracut Rotary charities.
