It’s time to register for Dracut Rotary Club’s Annual Gingerbread Contest. This year’s holiday kickoff will be held at Harmony Hall on Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. As in past years, admission is free and donations will be accepted for the Dracut Food Pantry. Santa will arrive at the Richardson School Complex (just outside) for the Festival of Lights tree lighting ceremony around 6:00 pm, then he’ll stop at the Gingerbread Contest to see all his little friends before heading back to the North Pole. Make sure you have your cameras ready!
The competition is open to four groups; Professionals (bakers, chefs…), Amateurs, Young Adults (13 to 19 years), and Children up to 12 years (including classrooms). Visitors will cast their votes for which gingerbread creations should win top prizes. Awards will be given to the top three vote-getters in each category…1st place $75.00, 2nd place $50.00 and 3rd place $25.00. The houses will then be raffled off to lucky visitors of the day’s event.
“This is a real community celebration,” said Neary. She is especially interested in getting the word out to youth and school groups, as well as the many adults who enter annually, that it is time to register. Entry forms are ready, according to Neary.
